Based in Wilmington, NC, the Port City Trio has been pleasing audiences for nearly 30 years, featuring standards from the Great American Songbook, a little blues, and strong originals. Kelly and Julia Walker Jewell have anchored the Port City Trio for decades, with able and willing cocktail drummer Woody Dobson adding the downbeat.
Kelly and Julia Walker Jewell bring a variety of influences – from Kelly’s early folk and Western swing guitar days to Julia’s more formal classical piano training – to standards and favorites from the Great American Songbook. Although a trio in their early days, they are now a quartet, featuring Brian Mason on drums and Ryan Woodall on bass. Joining this group is violinist and vocalist, Annie Jewell. Annie was a student in the first educational masterclass held by the NC Jazz Festival. As well as her freelance work, Annie Jewell is a professor of music at Cape Fear Community College, Director of Music at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, and a member of the Wilmington Symphony. She received her B.A. in Music Performance from UNC-Greensboro and her Master of Letters from St. Andrews University in Scotland.
