Our Special Event – STYLES OF JAZZ
will open with an old style of jazz that is new to the North Carolina Jazz Festival stage
“Gypsy Jazz”– played by Galen & friends. This will be followed by
Professor Cunningham’s Old School Tribute to the Big Band Era, featuring “old School chums” Adrian Cunningham (reeds), Randy Reinhart (trumpet), Jim Fryer (trombone), Herman Burney (bass) plus newcomers to the North Carolina Jazz Festival, Charleston based Quentin Baxter, on drums and Kevin Bales, pianist from Atlanta.
After a fifteen minute intermission we will present “Jazz Master” pianist Hod O’Brien in the kick-off performance of his 80th Birthday Anniversary Tour.
Following this, Hod will be joined by jazz singer Stephanie Nakasian, as they do their special Tribute to Ladies of Jazz. With them will be Chuck Redd on drums and Herman Burney on bass. The evening will come to a rousing close with a Traditional Jazz Jam of Thursday evening All-Stars. This will be a 3 ½ hour concert.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY evenings will feature our fourteen All-Star musicians
in the traditional seven sets of six or seven players, each set with a different leader.
These will be 4 ½ hour concerts.
