Shaye Cohn

Shaye Cohn is a multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer based in New Orleans. She is one of the founding members of Tuba Skinny, the internationally-acclaimed traditional jazz band that has recorded 14 albums, won numerous awards, and toured extensively from their homebase on Royal St in New Orleans to festivals across the US and Europe, to Tasmania, and many places in-between. Shaye plays cornet in Tuba Skinny. She also arranges, composes, and leads the band.

In addition to cornet, Shaye also plays piano, fiddle, alto horn and accordion. Some of her other projects are: band leading, arranging and composing for the 25-piece Wits End Brass Band; playing alto horn with the Panorama Brass Band; playing keyboard and accordion in Los Guiros, a psychedelic cumbia band; playing cornet in Scrontch Music, an original music project led by composer Byron Asher; and playing piano in Bosques Fragmentados, an original music project led by vocalist Sarah Peterson.

Shaye last appeared at the North Carolina Jazz Festival in 2023 and is honored to be returning this year.
