Ehud Asherie

Although born in Israel, Ehud spent his early years in Milan, Italy, where his love of piano started at age six, before his parents moved to the New York City area. His piano lessons continued until he “graduated” in the middle of high school by getting his parents’ permission to “attend” Small’s in Greenwich Village, sparking his love of jazz. He commuted to Small’s each evening to the first session of the night and stayed until the last strains of the jam session, usually 6am! The late Frank Hewett was a mentor, but Ehud’s influencers are broad drawing from Dick Hyman, Bud Powell, Monk and McCoy Tyner, to name a few. More recently, Ehud has developed a passion for traditional Brazilian jazz, partnering with Bina Coquet, Brazilian guitarist, to form the duo Bina & Ehud. Ehud is much in demand in NYC and beyond, playing often at Kitano’s, Mezzrow, and other popular jazz spots. Heperformed here in 2014 and we are happy to welcome him back to our stage for the 2019 North Carolina Jazz Festival.
